EOFY is one of the few times of year when dealer and buyer incentives genuinely align. It is also when the most poorly considered purchases are made.

Why the deals are real

Dealers work to volume targets tied to manufacturer bonuses. In the closing weeks of June, hitting a target can be worth more than the margin on the individual car.

That is the mechanism behind genuine EOFY sharpness. It is also why it applies unevenly: a dealer already past target has no reason to discount.

The delivery deadline trap

Tax benefits generally attach to when the vehicle is first held and ready for use, not when the order is placed. A June order delivered in August may not achieve what you expected.

If timing matters for your deduction, buy from available stock and confirm the delivery date in writing before you commit.

What to prepare in advance

Finance pre-approval, a decision on your existing vehicle and a shortlist of acceptable specifications should all be settled before June. Sharp stock moves in days, not weeks.

Buyers who can transact immediately consistently secure better outcomes than those still deciding what colour they want.

When to ignore EOFY entirely

If your preferred model is supply-constrained, EOFY changes nothing. Scarcity beats calendar pressure every time.

And a vehicle that does not suit your needs is not a saving, whatever the discount was. The deadline should sharpen a decision you had already made, not create one.
