How Valuations Work

Three numbers, not one.

Every vehicle has more than a single value. There is the wholesale figure a trade buyer will pay today, the trade-in figure a dealership will allow against a new car, and the retail figure the vehicle would realistically achieve in a well managed private sale. They can differ by many thousands on the same car.

A useful valuation shows you all three, along with the time, effort and risk attached to each. That is the only way to judge whether the convenient option is costing you more than it is worth.

Ventura values vehicles the way we value them for our own buying clients: against recently transacted comparable sales, current stock levels in the market, and the specific attributes of your car rather than a generic model average.

What Affects Value

The factors that genuinely move your number

Two identical models can be separated by thousands. These are the variables that explain most of that gap.

Service history

Complete, verifiable records give buyers confidence and consistently attract stronger offers than an equivalent car without them.

Kilometres and age

Both matter, but demand tends to fall in steps around common thresholds rather than in a smooth line.

Condition and presentation

Paint, panel, interior wear and tyre life are assessed the way a trade buyer assesses them: as reconditioning cost.

Specification and options

Some option packs are close to essential in resale, others return almost nothing. Colour choice can be worth more than either.

Model demand cycle

A pending model update, a runout campaign or a fuel price shift can move an entire segment within weeks.

Compliance and registration

Remaining registration, roadworthy status and any finance encumbrance all affect what a buyer will commit to today.

Current Market and Dealer Demand

Where the market sits right now

Supply has normalised

New vehicle supply has largely recovered from the constrained years, which has pulled used values back toward long term trend lines. Holding a car in a softening segment has a real cost.

Demand remains uneven

Dual cab utes, seven seat SUVs and low kilometre prestige vehicles continue to attract strong trade competition, while some large sedans and older prestige models are harder to place.

Dealers need stock

Franchised dealers still need quality used inventory to feed their own retail floors, which is why a well presented, well documented car sold into the right network can outperform expectations.

Questions

Vehicle valuation, frequently asked questions

Is the valuation free?

Yes. Valuations are provided free of charge with no obligation to sell, trade or buy through Ventura.

How accurate is an online vehicle valuation?

Automated tools give a broad range based on model and kilometres alone. Our valuation adds condition, service history, options, colour, registration and current buyer demand, which is where most of the variance actually sits.

What information do you need from me?

Make, model, year, build date, kilometres, service history, any finance owing and an honest description of condition. Photographs help considerably and can be sent through after your enquiry.

How long does a valuation take?

Most valuations are returned within one business day. Rare, prestige or heavily optioned vehicles can take a little longer because the comparable data set is smaller.

Will you inspect the car in person?

For higher value vehicles, or where the sale proceeds through our network, a physical inspection is arranged in Sydney or coordinated interstate.

Does a valuation commit me to selling?

Not at all. Many clients request a valuation simply to understand their position before deciding whether to keep, trade or sell the vehicle.
