How ANCAP ratings work
Ratings are awarded against the protocol in force at the time of testing, and they expire after roughly six years. A five-star rating from an older protocol is not equivalent to a current one.
Always check the year of the rating and the four underlying category scores rather than relying on the star count alone.
The technology that prevents crashes

In a two-vehicle collision, mass helps. That is a genuine argument for a larger family vehicle, and it should be weighed against visibility, parking and running costs.
